Bookings are at 36,000 units and counting. MG Motor has now released its first over-the-air (OTA) software update for Hector. With this, new features such as Apple Car Play come into play, and overall user experience with tech enhancements stands improvement.

MG is doing things to ensure service to customers is quick, timely, and advanced. The OTA software update ensures a convenience for the brand’s growing customer base. Customers needn’t take their Hector to an authorised service station for the infotainment system update.

Beginning today, those with a MG Hector Smart or Sharp variant will receive a notification on the touchscreen display to download the latest free software update directly. This is possible with the embedded sim card for internet in the iSmart infotainment system. MG Motor will roll out the update in batches.

With the first over-the-air update in the Indian automotive industry, we are redefining the in-car experience and will continue to delight customers with more updates in the future,” said Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India.

MG India has increased production of Hector from 1,500 units a month to 3,000 units a month as demand is really high. If the demand continues to be high, production will be increased to 3,500 units a month. As of now, buyers of MG Hector are looking at a waiting period of up to 10 months – depending on the variant, colour and city.

With MG India having tasted success with their first car launch in the country, the company has plans to launch more cars in India. Next up for launch from MG in India is the ZS electric SUV. After this, MG will launch a more premium variant of Hector in 6 seater format. This will take on the Toyota Innova Crysta.

It will also share its engine lineup with the 5 seater Hector. This engine lineup includes 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine offering 143 bhp power and 250 Nm torque. The 2.0 liter turbo diesel engine offers 173 bhp power and 350 Nm torque. The 6 seat Hector will also be offered with a mild hybrid variant powered by the same petrol engine along with a 48V motor. The engines get mated to a 6 speed manual transmission while the petrol variant also gets a 6 speed DCT.
