Launched about a year ago, brand MG Motor now has 3 cars on offer in the country
For the month of July 2020, MG Motor India has recorded sales of 2,105 units. This when compared with July 2019, the company had recorded sales of 1,508 units. This is an increase of 597 units or 39.59%. Interestingly, July 2019 was also the first full month of production, since the company had launched Hector, their first car, on 27th June 2019.
Today, MG Motor India has 3 cars on offer – Hector, ZS EV and Hector Plus. All three are SUVs. Of the three cars, it is the Hector and newly launched Hector Plus which bring in the sales numbers for the company. ZS EV is an all electric car, and has fewer buyers – though it has still managed to become the most booked electric car in India.
In just 27 days, booking numbers of ZS EV had crossed 2,800 – but due to production constraints, deliveries are slow. Same is the case with Hector and Hector Plus. The company is sitting on huge pending order book, but due the current situation, production has been affected.
With sales picking up in July, the month has been a busy one. While MG Motor opened bookings for Hector Plus earlier in 6th month at 50k, launch was scheduled for July 13, 2020. Hector Plus, as the name suggests offers something more, and this comes with popular captain seats for the middle row in this 6-seat variant, along with other new features. As sales pickup, the brand is carrying out multiple vehicle sanitisation drives and initiatives to ensure employee and customer safety at all times of purchase, and servicing.
Sales this month is a marginal improvement from last month when 2,012 units were sold. While, most manufacturers are posting a larger sales jump for June 2020 as compared to May 2020, MG Motor has been able to safeguard its interest and maintain sales at above 2k units quite regularly.
The fairly new entrant in India, offers up a fairly small product portfolio for now. This includes its first launch Hector, followed by its ZS EV. In keeping things refreshed, the brand has now introduced Hector Plus. They have plans to launch Gloster SUV next.
Rakesh Sidana, Director – Sales, MG Motor India, said, “The overall market environment continues to be challenging with uncertainties due to variable lockdowns in various phases. The component supplies continue to remain impacted especially from the Chennai region. However, despite these challenges, our production has remained at similar levels in July as compared to June 2020 and we expect the situation to improve during the festival season.”
