MG Hector SUV, ZS Electric sales in May 2020 down to 710 units

MG Motors has commenced production at its Halol plant with 30 percent capacity utilization

MG Motors has opened its manufacturing facility in Halol near Vadodara in Gujarat – where they manufacture their Hector SUV. They also opened around 65 percent of its showrooms and service centers across the country; following 2 months of lockdown in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, the company has announced sales of 710 units for May 2020, this includes Hector SUV as well as ZS Electric SUV. This is also despite the fact that there are stricter credit financing and lower staff strength. The supply chain network should improve from later this month while normalcy could be fully restored by July 2020. The company has updated its lineup to comply with BS6 emission standard.

In the coming weeks, during the second phase of expansion, MG Motors plans to expand sales of the new ZS EV to cities such as Pune, Surat, Cochin, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Chennai. It may be recalled that the MG ZS EV was launched in January 2020 at Rs.20.88 lakhs, but was initially sold only in 5 cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Following launch in these new cities, the ZS EV will be on sale in 11 cities across the country. Customers can book this pure electric SUV from 1st June 2020 onwards via the company dealerships or online using the ‘MY MG App’. This App allows customers to book the SUV and to track its manufacturing process and is an exclusive feature offered to MG ZS EV customers.

MG Motors has also introduced the “Shield+” program as a precaution against the coronavirus pandemic. It allows for contact free technology for which the automaker has entered into an alliance with Medklinn’s Cerafusion sterilization technology for vehicle cabin sterilization. It adopts various measures to keep contact between customer, dealerships and employees to as minimum as possible.

This ensures complete sanitization of vehicles and all premises, door step delivery and all MG cars get a voice assistant wherein the virtual assistant offers the customer a demonstration of the car. Customers are also offered an over the air update for their car’s infotainment system which means that this negates the need for a visit to the showroom for any updates.

Along with Shield+, MG Motors has also introduced MG Care@Home and MGerm Clean initiatives where all customer’s cars get thoroughly sanitized and fumigated by trained technicians from the safety of their home and also before and after delivery services.
