MG Motor India sales Jan 2020 at 3,130 units – Hector BS6 launched

MG Motor India Jan 2020 sales stand at 3,130 units. Hector BS6 launched. As of now, it is only the petrol model which is updated. Diesel BS6 launch expected in Feb 2020.

With only one product on offer, MG Motor has managed to create quite a name in the auto industry. Helping them is their first SUV, Hector. Launched back in mid 2019, the SUV is offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol unit is a 1.5 liter unit while the diesel engine is a 2.0 liter unit.

It is the petrol motor that has now been updated to meet BS6 norms of India, which come into effect from 1st April 2020. There is no change in performance or mileage figures, as the 1.5 liter motor delivers the same power and torque figures of 143 hp and 250 Nm. Transmission options remain same – 6 MT and DCT. Apart from reducing carbon emissions, the other change is in price. Prices of MG Hector BS6 petrol have gone up by Rs 26,000 across variants. Below is the detailed price list of MG Hector BS6.

Commenting on the sales performance during Jan 2020, Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India, said, “The robust sales momentum of our first offering, the HECTOR, has been very encouraging. We are on track for BS VI transition in line with our brand belief of offering the latest technology to our customers. This transition will continue to happen over February and March 2020.”

MG as delivered more than 15k Hector SUVs already in India. This is more than 55% market share in the segment, which consists of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass. Seeing the potential of Indian auto industry, MG Motor has decided to increase their production capacity as well as investment in India. Official announcement will be made in the coming 3-4 months. Ahead of that, MG is getting ready to show a large number of cars at the Auto Expo next week.

This is the first time MG is participating at the Indian Auto Expo, and they have plans to have the grandest display of cars and technology. From showcasing their latest cars from around the world to showcasing what is their future technology like, MG India promises to deliver an exciting experience to visitors at their stall.

MG Hector prices BS6

MG will have a wide array of cars on display. This will include India bound MPV to take on Maruti Ertiga, new SUV called Gloster to take on Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, small hatchback, a new sedan for India to take on the likes of Honda Civic and Skoda Octavia. They will also have an MPV concept on display.

What will be launched from MG at the Auto Expo, is the much awaited 6 seat Hector. Longer than the current Hector by about 40 mm, this new Hector variant will also feature slightly revised front and rear, including the headlight and tail light. On the inside, it will get new wood inserts, captain seats in the 2nd row, and a 3rd row. Expect Hector 6 seater to be launched with BS6 diesel as well as BS6 petrol engine options.
