Michelin Tyre plant in India ready to start productionIt was in 2009, that Michelin Tyres had signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government for the construction of this plant at SIPCOT Thervoy Kandigai Industrial Park in Thiruvallur district. Investment to the tune of INR 4,000 crores over a seven year period will be pumped into the plant which will offer employment to close to 1,500 people in the region. Speaking to ET, France Ambassador to India, Francois Richier said, “Largest investments are made in Tamil Nadu (by France). The most recent one, I would like to mention, Michelin tyre factory, which is the largest tyre factory in the world, which has to be inaugurated soon.”

Delays and other constraints which included problems related to land acquisition and protesting villagers hindered timely completion of the plant but these have been overcome and Michelin has started installing equipment at the plant with aspirations to start running this equipment soon. Over 600 engineers have also been employed by Michelin and have been sent to Michelin manufacturing facilities across the globe for training.
