In the earlier articles, we discussed Sub 4m SUV sales and 4.2 – 4.4m SUV sales. Now let us take a look at sales in the mid-size SUV segment (4.4m to 4.7m), which remained largely stable in December 2025, with total volumes at 25,745 units, marking a 1.59 percent year-on-year growth compared to December 2024. However, on a month-on-month basis, the segment saw a 14.75 percent decline over November 2025, indicating some cooling after a stronger festive-period performance.
Mid Size SUV Sales Dec 2025
Leading the segment by a wide margin was Mahindra Scorpio / N, which posted 15,885 units in December 2025. This translated into a solid 30.26 percent YoY growth, while MoM numbers were largely flat with a 1.72 percent increase. Scorpio / N continued to account for a significant share of the segment, underlining Mahindra’s strong hold in this space.

Tata Harrier / EV emerged as one of the fastest-growing models on a yearly basis. Sales stood at 2,378 units, up sharply by 81.94 percent YoY. However, compared to November 2025, Harrier / EV volumes fell by 36.94 percent, reflecting a sharp monthly correction after higher dispatches in the previous month.
A key highlight in December was the performance of Mahindra’s electric SUVs. Mahindra XEV 9e recorded 2,154 units, while Mahindra XEV 9S added another 491 units. With no comparable numbers from December 2024, both models showed strong MoM growth, especially XEV 9e, which grew 51.37 percent over November 2025. These numbers indicate growing traction for electric SUVs in the mid-size category.

Tata Safari posted 1,446 units, registering a modest 4.40 percent YoY growth, though sales declined 23.69 percent MoM. In contrast, Mahindra 700, now launched as XUV7XO, witnessed a sharp drop, with December 2025 sales at 1,424 units, down 80.59 percent YoY and 76.94 percent MoM, making it one of the weakest performers in the segment during the month. This is likely due to shifts in production of the new variant. The new XUV7XO is set to climb higher in the charts in coming months as it has generated record bookings.
Among other players, MG Hector / Plus recorded 1,147 units, declining 16.46 percent YoY but showing a strong 312.59 percent MoM jump, aided by a low base in November. Hyundai Alcazar continued to struggle, with sales of 579 units, down 56.86 percent YoY and 31.07 percent MoM.
Premium SUVs in this size band remained niche. Jeep Compass sold 140 units, Volkswagen Tiguan posted 100 units, while Citroen C5 Aircross remained virtually absent with just 1 unit. Hyundai Tucson reported zero sales in December 2025, as the current model has been discontinued.

Overall, while the mid-size SUV segment managed to post marginal YoY growth in December 2025, the MoM decline highlights uneven demand across models. Strong performances from Mahindra, especially Scorpio / N and its electric SUVs, helped offset declines seen in several established ICE models, indicating a gradual but visible shift in buyer preference within the segment.
