The Mitsubishi Ground tourer concept which previews a mid-size crossover has been teased ahead of its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October. The design study will serve as a precursor to the next-gen Outlander.
The new concept is a part of an SUV offensive which also includes concepts like the eX and HR PHEV II. All these concepts would spawn a production version.
The eX will lead to a compact crossover which will take on the likes of Nissan Juke. The HR PHEV II’s production version would be slightly larger and will slot between the eX and next-gen Outlander.
The ailing Japanese automaker is looking to redefine itself into a niche maker of hybrid crossovers. The production versions of the aforementioned concepts are expected to be released between 2018 and 2021 at regular intervals.
Mitsubishi has not revealed anything about the Ground Tourer concept but the teaser indicates that it will follow the brand’s Dynamic Shield design philosophy. An aggressive stance, expressive sheet metal design, and dual-tone exterior color theme are the highlights.

Now that Nissan is set to become the largest stakeholder of Mitsubishi, we expect the Ground Tourer’s production version to be underpinned by the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF platform.
