Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Automatic will be powered by the same 2.5 liter four cylinder diesel engine powering manual variant. Transmission will be taken care by a five speed automatic gearbox. The upcoming automatic model also gets a host of added improvements which will include a new grille, front and rear bumpers besides more equipment in its interiors which will be done up in lighter colors to give it a more premium appeal.
Hindustan Motors launched the Pajero Sport in India in 2012. It came in as a CBU which later was offered as CKD. Their Tiruvallur plant in Chennai takes care of the local assembly. The new Pajero Sport Automatic will compete with both Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Fortuner on launch.
Besides the upcoming Pajero Sport Automatic, there is another vehicle in the offing to be introduced by Mitsubishi-Hindustan Motors coalition. This is believed to be the new Mirage small car which the company has just introduced in US markets.
HM-Mitsubishi is ranked at the bottom of the Indian auto industry, with monthly average sales of less than 200 units. Considering India is primarily a small car market, need of the hour for Mitsubishi is to launch new cars in the small car segment. Launching their new Mirage hatchback and Attrage sedan will play a major role in pushing the brand off its place at the bottom of the table in India.
