Coming into India via the CKD route, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be assembled at Hindustan Motors’ Chennai Car Plant in Tamil Nadu. Replace the current model, new gen Pajero Sport comes with a number of external and internal updates, besides a number of safety and driver assist features. Surprisingly, engine specifications remain unchanged.
The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will receives a 2.4 liter MIVEC diesel engine. While power and torque figures are yet to be revealed, one could safely expect the same between 180-190PS and over 420Nm of torque.
This engine is mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels via a Super-Select 4WD-II four-wheel drive system. This engine also powers the pick-up truck on which the Pajero Sport is based.
Mitsubishi claims that the new Pajero Sport is 7% more fuel efficient than its earlier counterpart while CO2 emissions rating of under 200 g/km.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be seen with added chrome accents seen on its front grille, headlamp surrounds and on its newly shaped tailgates. Interiors will boast of leather upholstery, four spoke multifunction steering wheel and new central console while infotainment will be in the form of a touchscreen infotainment system, 360 degree camera, 7 airbags and electronic hand brake. Autonomous braking, blind spot monitoring and descent control form a part of the on-board safety features.
Once launched, it will rival the likes of new gen Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, which are all set to be launched in India in the coming months. The other contenders it will have to rival include Chevrolet Trailblazer and Volkswagen Tiguan (also due in 2017).
