Motor Show held during pandemic – Gets higher than expected response

Held from July 13 – 26, the 41st Bangkok International Motor Show has turned out to be a bigger success that expected

Total number of visitors and bookings has exceeded the expectations of organizers and auto companies. Organizing such a large scale event in the midst of Covid-19 epidemic was certainly a huge challenge and came with significant risks. However, things went smoothly with detailed planning and extensive safety protocols.

To allay concerns about Covid spread, the event was attended by Dr. Satit Pitutecha, Deputy Minister of Public Health and Dr. Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, Director-General of Department of Disease Control. This had a positive impact on participants, many of whom may have been worried about getting infected with Covid-19. Total visitor count was 1,049,046, which is evidence that the event was a huge success.

Auto companies that showcased their products at the event were also satisfied with the response received from customers. A total of 22,791 bookings were received, which includes 18,381 car bookings and 4,410 motorcycle bookings. The huge number of bookings reveals that consumer sentiments are improving even though the threat of Covid-19 is far from over.

Covid under control in Thailand

Concerns about Covid-19 spread were relatively less in Thailand, as the country has managed to control the spread of the virus. Thailand is among the countries with the lowest total cases. Its current tally is just around the 3k mark and cases per million is only 50. Moreover, corona cases have plateaued in Thailand since several weeks. On a day-to-day basis, new Covid-19 cases are either zero or in single digits in Thailand.

The next edition of Bangkok International Motor Show will be held from March 24 to April 4, 2021, at Impact Challenger 1-3, Muang Thong Thani. Things are expected to be a lot better by then, as significant progress has been made in the development of new drugs and vaccines for Covid-19. Hopefully, next year’s event will attract even a higher number of participants. Some auto companies that were unable to attend this year may also be back in 2021.
