Keeping in mind August 2019 sales, the loosely defined MPV segment appears to be in good overall health. The segment stalwart, Maruti Ertiga continues to lead with 8,391 units sold. This is up a whopping 138.72 percent from 3,515 units sold in August 2018.

MoM sales of Maruti Ertiga decline stands at 9.01 percent, down from 9,222 units old in July 2019. This could however be on account of the fact that the brand has introduced an Ertiga based variant last month.

Named XL6, it’s sold 2,356 units in its maiden month of business. Launched last month, Maruti XL6 has taken the 3rd spot on the table, ahead of rival Mahindra Marazzo. Together Ertiga and XL6 sales account for 10,747 units sold.

Toyota Innova sales decline stands at a noticeable 28.20 percent, down to 4,796 units old last month compared to 6,680 units sold a year earlier. However, the decline needn’t be dissected in great detail as the Innova has stood the test of time, and continues to be a highly comfortable and feature laden people carrier. Keeping in mind current market conditions, Innova sales decline is not an alarming one. MoM sales decline is at a marginal 1,42 percent from 4,865 units sold in July 2019.

Mahindra Marazzo sales on the other hand could spell trouble. A fairly new launch, sales has dwindled to 697 units. In fact, Mahindra Marazzo sales stands at the lowest monthly sales since launch. Decline is a startling 60.44 percent from 1,762 units sold in August 2018. This certainly doesn’t bode well for a vehicle that’s been in the market for such a short period. MoM sales decline stands at 27.09 percent, down from 956 units old in July 2019.

Mahindra Xylo sales too has been dwindling and has been reduced to 356 units last months. That’s a sales decline of 55.56 percent from base sales of 581 units. MoM sales growth is reported at 9.88 percent, up from 324 units sold in July 2019.

Renault Lodgy just about gets its foot through the door with 24 units sold. Sales decline stands at 55.56 percent, down from 54 units old in August 2018. MoM sales improvement stands at 166.67 percent, up from single digit sales of 9 units in July 2019.

Total MPV sales are up 31.99 percent at 16,620 units sold in August 2018, up from 12,592 units sold in August 2018. All credit goes to Ertiga and XL6, the only two offerings wherein sales are in the green. Every other vehicle in the segment is coping with sales decline. MoM sales growth is reported at 8.09 percent, up from 15,376 units sold in July 2019.
