Maruti 1000 designed by ex-DC designer gets impounded in Mumbai for non conformity and lack of certifications.

RTO officials at Vashi and Andheri have impounded a Maruti 1000 parked in a garage for repairs claiming that the model was not in conformation with any approved model while certifications were also not in order.

The said Maruti 1000, bearing No. MH 04 A 3824, is registered in the name Devraj Kothari from Mulund. Though Kothari is no more, his son Jaywant, when contacted, claimed that he had modified the 15 year old vehicle 5 years ago. Jayant later exchanged the modified Maruti 1000 with a Hyundai Sonata, belonging to Heera Patel of Laxmi Balaji Entertainment.

Inspector Anandram Wagle of flying squad along with Dy. RTO, Navi Mumbai and Pravin Sajerao of Andheri RTO claim that the car is in total violation of Motor Vehicle Act with modifications being illegal. The car had it’s A, B and C pillars altered while body shell had been cut. The car which was initially a 5 seater was converted to a 2 seater while the four door body style was modified to a 2 door. The car has since been seized by the RTO officials while notice has been issued to both parties.

Interestingly, the same registration number was seen on board DC Arka a few years ago. But, DC Arka was seen in a shade of red and sporting a convertible soft top as against a shade of olive green and hard top seen in the impounded car. It seems that either of the two had the car modified once again, from a soft top to a hard top and a new colour job.
