Organized by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), and ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India), Auto Expo is a bienniel event. This year’s Auto Expo dates are 3-9 February. 3-4 are exclusive for media personnel, while 5-9 are open for general public.
Touted as the biggest ever automotive show India has ever hosted, there will be up to 80 new vehicle launches and some global unveils. Participating in the 2016 Auto Expo are 1,500 vehicle manufacturers and suppliers from over 20 countries. Most of which are renowned names in the automotive industry.
To draw over 7 lakh visitors over the five day period, there are some big names in the auto industry who have decided to stay away from the buzz, and not participate during this year’s show. These names are – Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield, Bharat Benz, Harley Davidson, Skoda India, ICML (International Cars & Motors Limited), Volvo Trucks and Buses, and a few more.
Bajaj says that their reason behind not participating at this year’s Auto Expo is due to a different focus. Not only Auto Expo requires numerous amount of manpower, but also thinking, planning and resources. With Bajaj aiming to launch multiple new products in 2016, which they believe is their year in the motorcycle space.

Daimler on the other hand, said that Auto Expo primarily focuses on two wheelers and passenger vehicles, which is one of the reason behind them not participating. Royal Enfield will not be participating because of marketing decision. They had not participated in 2014 as well.
