New generation A8 is based on Audi’s MLB Evo platform. It gets its design from the Prologue Concept. Its body is made up of aluminium, hot-stamped steel, magnesium and carbon-fibre and dimensions have increased as compared to its previous counterpart.
The front end gets a wide, hexagonal grille with angular Matrix LED headlamps on either side. LED brake light strip run the width of the rear where OLED lamps are also seen. New Audi A8 receives advanced active suspension system. This system uses a 48 volt electric architecture and uses a front mounted camera that would analyze the road ahead and adjust suspension accord to road surface.
The luxury saloon gets fresh interiors with a virtual dashboard displaying 10.1” Multi Media Information Display touchscreen and a virtual cockpit. Massage seats with foot massage function for passenger at the rear and a new multi function steering wheel also make up its interior features.
The new Audi A8 also gets three self driving functions among which are traffic jam pilot assist where the car takes over duties of acceleration, braking and steering at speeds upto 60 kmph. Remote parking and 360 decree camera are also seen.
Engine specifications on the 2018 Audi A8 includes a 3.0 liter TDI offering 282 bhp power, a 3.0 TFSI capable of 335 bhp power and 4.0 V8 petrol and diesel engines capable of 429 bhp and 453 bhp respectively.
A plug in hybrid version of the Audi A8 is also being planned sometime in the future with a 3.0 liter TFSI petrol engine and an electric motor developing 449 PS power and 700 Nm torque. Once officially launched, the 2018 Audi A8 will compete with the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series.
