New Bajaj Avenger 160 launched – Tech specs, price revealed

The all-new Bajaj Avenger Street 160 ABS is now available at a price of Rs. 82,253/- (all Ex-Showroom Delhi). For Bajaj, the focused offerings of Pulsar and Avenger are aimed at decisive segment leadership. Avenger Street 160 ABS is available in Ebony Black and Spicy Red colours. The 160.4 cc engine in use returns 15 PS power, and 13.5 Nm Torque at 7000 rpm for comfy city riding. Power to weight ratio is improved to 103.3 PS/Ton. In comparison, Avenger 150 figures stood at 98 PS/Ton.

With ABS now being a norm rather than an option, it’s no surprise that the manufacturer has made the shift. This also works in tandem with Bajaj aiming to consolidate its segment leadership. Avenger Street 160 ABS features 260 mm front disc brakes for quick and dependable braking. 177 mm ground clearance is sufficient for comfortable city and highway riding. Riding comfort is courtesy the upright riding posture low slung seat and extended footrest position.

Bajaj Avenger Street 160 ABS features a single channel ABS to prevent wheel locking and increase stability. Exterior features include a roadster design, headlamp with LED DRLs, new graphics with larger Insignia, low & long profile, black alloy wheels and rubberized rear grab.

With its introduction in 2005, Bajaj Avenger leisure cruiser charted a niche segment for the brand. In essence, Avengers meet commuter needs that revolve around city riding and touring on weekends. Avenger Street 160 with ABS is being presented as a mashup of roadster and cruiser design languages with its street control flat handlebar, low-slung seat and alloy wheels.

Narayan Sundararaman, Vice President (Marketing) – Motorcycles, Bajaj Auto Ltd said, “As the segment leader, Bajaj Auto believes in the strategy of differentiation and category expansion. Avenger Street 160 with ABS provides contemporary styling whilst retaining its classical roadster design. The discerning customer gets a definite step-up into the world of classic biking. This will open up choices to the entry-level sports customers.”

New Avenger Street 160 ABS brings the sporty cruiser experience to 150-160cc segment customers. And in this it hopes to distinguish itself from other segment offerings, and be the choice of masses. Avenger sales are on the decline. Compared to what Bajaj used to register, the sales are about 10 times lower these days. Will the new Avenger launch change that?
