Bajaj has announced a press conference of February 1 (two days prior to commencement of Auto Expo) in Delhi for the launch of a new motorcycle but has not furnished any details about product. The new Bajaj motorcycle which was spied recently could very well be the star of the event.
Economic Times reports that the bike which is codenamed X will cater to the executive segment. It is likely to be placed in between the Discover and Pulsar families of motorcycles.
Speaking to the publication, Eric Vas, President (Motorcycle Business), Bajaj Auto, stated:
Apart from the fact that we will be launching a new bike, as of now we call it ‘brand X’; will be positioned in what we call the mature space in the executive segment.
He also added that Bajaj is currently selling around 20,000 units per month in this segment and with the launch of the new model, the company is aiming to achieve 70,000 units per month. This ambitious target indicates that Bajaj is betting big on its new segment creator and also hints that the new brand will spawn a serious of variants with varying engine displacements.
The spyshots revealed a semi low-slung motorcycle which appeared to carry a 150 cc air-cooled engine. While the prototype donned decoy body parts derived from Pulsar and Avenger, we expect the final design to be inspired by the Pulsar CS 400 concept which was unveiled at the previous Auto Expo.
Bajaj will not be participating at the Auto Expo 2016 but is looking to steal the thunder by announcing the new product just a few days before the show starts.
