BMW F 900 XR comes with additional fairing and dual LED lamps that ensure a dominating stance. The short tail clearly indicates the bike’s sporty nature. Features that are common to both motorcycles include adaptive headlight, dynamic brake control (DBC), engine braking control (EBC), and BMW Motorrad ABS. Adaptive headlight ensures safer night rides, as these are automatically activated at a lean angle of 7°. These provide optimal illumination when negotiating a curve. Other key features include a 6.5 inch TFT colour display that can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Electronic rider aides are also available that include riding modes of Road and Rain.

BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR utilize a bridge-type chassis with steel shell construction. Suspension system comprises 43 MM USD forks and cast aluminium dual swing arm rear suspension. However suspension travel is different for both; 135 mm / 142 mm for 900 R and 170 mm / 172 mm for 900 XR.

BMW F 900 R will take on rivals such as KTM 790 Duke, Triumph Street Triple RS and Yamaha MT-09. On the other hand, F 900 XR will go up against Tiger 900 GT range and Ducati Multistrada 950 in the Indian market.
