BMW M Performance lineup is extended with the new BMW X4 M40i. Set to rival Audi SQ5 and Mercedes Benz GLC 450 AMG, the new BMW is based on X4 crossover coupe and is said to be the sportiest SUV in its class.
With its engine tweaked by the company’s GmbH performance division, BMW X4 M40i receives a 3.0 liter turbocharged engine also seen on the X4 35i. This engine is however capable of 355 hp power from 5,800-6,000 rpm and 343 lb/ft torque from 1,350-5,250 rpm, an increase of 55 hp and 43 lb/ft.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 4.7 seconds as against 5.2 seconds seen on the X4 35i while top speed is limited to 250 kmph. M specific performance tuning is evident throughout the M40i with sporty shifts and higher downshift while Launch Control is offered as standard.
Sporting similar external design to the 35i, the M40i sports a new front bumper with thin chrome strips, a redesigned rear bumper and rounded exhaust tips. BMW M40i sits on 19” alloy wheels with run flat tyres 245/45 R19 or performance run flat tyres 245/45 R19 in front and 275/40 R19 at the rear.
Also on offer are 20” two tone rims with Michelin Pilot Sports tyres 245/40 R20 at the front and 275/35 R20 at the rear. The M40i receives a distinctive M badge while interiors boast of a 3 Series sourced M sport steering wheel, new door sills and X4 M40i digital lettering on instrument cluster. BMW X4 M40i is offered in a choice of 6 Nevada leather upholstery and 4 varieties of interior trim accents.
More details will be revealed prior to release date while the crossover goes on sale in early 2016. Pricing information is yet undisclosed but it would definitely be priced higher than the X4 xDrive35i which comes with a price tag of $49,250 (INR 32,31,068).
