New BMW X4 SUV spied in India before launch – Range Rover Evoque rival

The BMW X4 SUV coupe crossover has been spotted on a public road in Chennai without any camouflage ahead of its launch which is slated for first quarter of 2019. The luxury SUV is a sportier version of the regular X3 and will command a premium over its sibling.

The BMW X4 competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe which is available in India only in the AMG 43 flavor. It also competes with the Range Rover Evoque. The hardcore X4 M is still a few months away from its international sales debut so we expect BMW India to introduce regular petrol and diesel variants to boot with.

The X4 shares its design with the X3 till the B-pillar beyond which the roofline takes a steep dive to terminate in a notchback-like rear fascia. The coupe silhouette makes the X3 more athletic and compact compared to its sibling. The interior design too is shared with the X3.

Internationally, the BMW X4 is available with a range of four and six cylinder petrol and diesel engines. It’s unclear how many of these powertrain options will be available in India but if we were to bet, we would put our money on the 6-cylinder petrol and diesel variants with standard all-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW X4 is likely to be imported into India as a CBU. So, expect the prices to be closer to those of X5 than X3. The objective of the X4 in India is to offer the customers with more variety rather than achieving a noticeable bump in the sales volume.

Not surprisingly, the BMW X4 comes packed with an extensive list of comfort, luxury and safety features. The highlights include Driving Assistant Plus – a complete suite of ADAS (Advance Driver Assistance Systems), and a comprehensive touchscreen infotainment system.

In a related news, BMW India finished a close second to Mercedes-Benz India in the JD Power customer satisfaction survey in the luxury segment. Audi India finished third with a score below the segment average.
