BMW X5 SUV has been made its global debut with sales set to start from from December 2019. Prices have also been detailed. It will start from £56,710 (INR 51,08,010) for the X5 xDrive30d xLine going up to £70,690 (INR 63,67,224) for the M50d.
2019 BMW X5 SUV is based on the new CLAR platform and will receive subtle exterior and interior changes along with new powertrain options. Increased in dimensions to stand 4,921mm in length, 1,970mm in width and 1,737mm in height, the BMW X5 sits on a 2,975mm long wheelbase.
It gets added interior space with extra leg space in third row seating area and a 640 liter boot which can be extended to 1,860 liters with rear seats turned down. Exterior updates include headlamps with optional laser technology that can now shine upto 500 meters in full beam. It new kidney grill design gets active flaps to offer enhanced aerodynamic efficiency.
The BMW X5 receives a stiffer body shell with aluminum adding a 33% increase in torsional rigidity. Interiors also get updates with a new digital cockpit design and added infotainment features. It is seen with a 12.3” digital instrument panel and infotainment screen sporting BMW’s ID7 operating system. A heads-up display, Bowers & Wilkins sound system with voice recognition and gesture controls are also seen in its interiors.
Set to take on the next generation Mercedes GLS SUV, the BMW X5 gets its power from petrol and diesel engine options. The 3.0 liter, 6 cylinder diesel engine, seen powering the xDrive30d is capable of 265 hp power and 620 Nm torque while the in-line 6 cylinder offers 340 hp power and 500 Nm torque. It is also powered by a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine which along with electric motor offers 325 hp power and 900 Nm torque. All models offer a 4 wheel drive system and get mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox as standard.
BMW X5 SUV will compete against the Audi Q7, Mercedes GLS SUV and Volvo XC90 upon official launch.
