While old rivalries continue, two of the best selling SUVs in the segment, will now slug it out in their updated BS6 avatars

Ford Endeavour is the newest member of BS6 club and it comes with several new features including segment-first 10-speed automatic transmission. One of Endeavour’s primary rivals is Toyota Fortuner, which also received BS6 update recently. While Fortuner is currently ahead of Endeavour in sales numbers, things could change with the updated 2020 Endeavour. To understand how they fare against each other, here’s a quick comparison between Endeavour BS6 Vs. Fortuner BS6.

Design and styling: 2020 Endeavour comes with new exterior features such as all-LED headlamps and trendy square design lamp cluster. Usability has also been enhanced with the LED lamps now offering improved night-time visibility. In comparison, Toyota Fortuner BS6 does not offer any significant changes to the exterior design and styling. It is essentially the same unit as the outgoing BS4 model.

Engine and transmission: Endeavour BS6 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel unit, which is the same one currently in use in international-spec Endeavour. The only difference is that the engine has been updated to comply with BS6 emission norms. Ford has chosen to use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) tech to achieve BS6 compliance for Endeavour.

The engine generates max power of 170 ps and max torque of 420 Nm. It is mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox, which is segment-first. The transmission packs in advanced features such as progressive range selection for improved handling in an off-road environment and real-time adaptive algorithms for fast acceleration. Endeavour’s BS6 engine also offers improved fuel efficiency of up to 14%.

In comparison, Toyota Fortuner BS6 gets its power from a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. When mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the engine churns out 175 ps and 420 Nm. Customers opting for 6-speed automatic transmission can boost torque output to 450 Nm.
