New Ford Figo hatchback spotted at a dealership

New Ford Figo hatchback (4) rear three quarter

As a part of Ford India’s top-down approach, hatchback version of new Figo will have to wait till its sedan sibling gets up and running.

With only a few weeks left for the launch of Ford Figo Aspire, new Figo hatchback seems to be getting ready for its market introduction later this year. A pair of orange examples have been spotted at a dealership in Rajasthan, suggesting that Ford has started sending the car to its dealer partners for training purposes.

New Ford Figo hatchback (4) rear three quarter

New Ford Figo hatchback is expected to be launched in December 2015.

The front fascias of the duo look identical¬†and the similarity is carried forward all the way up to the C-pillars so that components like windows, and rear doors can be common to both cars. Figo’s peeled back rear combination lights, roof-mounted spoiler and a bulky hatch door render a sporty appeal.

The interior too is all about economies of scale as the design and layout are identical but Figo settles for a full black color theme with silver accents as against the compact sedan’s dual-tone beige-black combo. The steering, butterfly centre console and door armrests get silver accents while side AC vents are highlighted by chrome surrounds.

The models spotted belong to fully loaded Titanium Plus variant as evident from the presence of 4.2-inch SYNC 2.0 multimedia infotainment system (Titanium will get a smartphone dock in place of the screen) and automatic climate control.

The hatchback adopts a full black color theme with silver inserts.

We expect new Ford Figo hatchback to share its seats and interior packaging with Figo Aspire which means, we can expect a spacious cabin.

Powertrain lineup will constitute 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine which produces 88 PS and 112 Nm of torque and 1.5-litre TDCI diesel engine which develops 100 PS and 215 Nm of torque. A 5-speed MT will be standard. It remains to be seen if the 1.5-litre petrol motor with 6-speed PowerShift dual-clutch AT will be offered or not.

Expect Ford India to introduce new Figo hatchback in the month of December which should give the company enough time to concentrate on marketing the compact sedan.
