New gen 2018 Chevrolet Cruze spied on test in India

Yes. General Motors has decided to pull out of India by the end of this year. But they continue to test their cars, for export. Images and video by Rahul Reganti.

Back in 2015, GM India had announced that they will launch 5 new cars in India by 2017. One of them was the new generation Cruze. Unfortunately, GM India did not launch all the 5 cars they had promised.

In fact they failed to deliver on many more promises when they announced earlier this year that they are going to stop India operations. General Motors will use their facility in India to manufacture car for export markets. Recently, reader Rahul Reganti spotted the new gen Cruze sedan and the Spin MPV on test in India. Sadly, these cars are not for India anymore, they are being readied for export markets.

The next gen Cruze is is based on an all-new platform which achieves weight saving of up to 113 kg, so it’s safe to expect drastic improvement in performance, dynamics and efficiency. The new entry level D-Segment sedan is also longer (both in terms of overall length and wheelbase) and roomier.

Styling adopts a new philosophy and is more aerodynamic than its predecessor. There are a few subtle hints of the Camaro in the design elements. Upmarket interior features a simple dashboard which is loaded with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto enabled touchscreen infotainment system.

Spin MPV was also spied along side the Cruze.

Other feature highlights include multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, traction control and an array of safety assistance systems. The next gen Chevrolet Cruze is available with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine in international markets.
