Current gen Fiat Punto was first launched in 2005 and has not received any substantial update since then. The next generation 2018 Fiat Punto has been unveiled in Brazil officially.

Based on Fiat X6H platform that will also underpin the upcoming sub-Renegade SUV, new gen Fiat Punto is not expected to be launched in India. The premium hatchback is being named Argo after Jason and the Argonauts from Greek mythology.

Designed and developed at the company plant in Betim, the Fiat Argo will be seen with distinct styling with a new grille design, aggressive headlamps and LED signature lights. It gets a distinctive maroon highlight on its lower bumper and grey ORVMs besides a rear spoiler, large alloy wheels and chrome tipped trapezoidal exhaust.

Interiors will be seen with a three spoke multi function steering wheel, a color display and Uconnect infotainment system, paddle shifters and cruise control. It will also receive some driver and passenger comforts while cabin will be done up in premium quality fittings.

Fiat Argo will be launched in three trims of Attractive, Essence and Sporting. It will come in with three engine options that include a 1.0 liter FireFly petrol engine offering 72 bhp power and 102 Nm torque, a 1.3 liter FireFly petrol capable of 100 bhp and 134 Nm and a 1.8 liter EtorQ Evo flex-fuel petrol making 134 bhp power and 184 Nm torque. Each of these engines will be mated to either a 5 speed manual or 5 speed automatic gearbox while the company has not announced any diesel engines as on date.

Speaking about India launch, Fiat India has not confirmed any plans of launching the Punto successor here in the country. Fiat India’s immediate focus is promoting the Jeep brand, and the launch of new Compass SUV, that will happen in Q3 2017. If launched in India, the new Punto could be priced from INR 5.5-9 lakh while it will compete with Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Volkswagen Polo.
