Tractors and agriculture equipment maker New Holland Fiat India (NHFI) celebrated as the company rolled out its 250,000th tractor, New Holland 5500, from their plant in Greater Noida. This prized tractor was purchased by Hema Raghuwanshi based in Vidisha district in Madhya Pradesh and she was handed over the keys by Mr. Rakesh Malhotra, Head of NHFI at a ceremony held to mark the occasion.
Further expansion plans are on the cards as the company is setting up a new plant in Chakan near Pune to manufacture sugarcane harvesters, cotton pickers and combine harvesters. This new plant is expected to be operational by 2015. An investment of over INR 1,200 crores is to be invested over the next three years out of which INR 900 crores will be invested in the manufacturing unit coming up in Maharashtra. Production capacity at the Greater Noida plant is being increased to reach 60,000 tractors in teh next 2 years.
Franco Fusignani, Fiat Industrial Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific, who presided over the official ground breaking ceremony of the Greater Noida plant in 1998, commented about the milestone, “I have been closely involved in New Holland’s history in India from the very beginning, following its progress as it has been anticipating and meeting the changing needs of farmers. Stefano Pampalone, Head of Fiat Industrial Operations – India, Pakistan, Far East and Japan, speaking on the occasion said, “India is an extremely important market for the Group.
