New Hyundai Carlino SUV mid variant spied – Rivals Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon

Hyundai Motors had showcased the new Carlino concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. This sub 4 meter SUV is now being tested ahead of official launch in the country next year.

Earlier, the Carlino was also being tested in South Korea where it was noted in similar proportions to its showcased model at the Auto Expo. However it may be tweaked for the India market where it is slated for launch as a sub 4 meter model sometime in 2019.

2019 Carlino SUV gets a traditional Hyundai design language. It borrows some design elements from the Creta and sports a distinctive trademark grille in a hexagonal design, LED DRLs, low mounted projector headlamps and fog lamps besides a silver skid plate.

Due to heavy camouflage, design elements at the rear were not clearly visible, but are likely to be similar to those seen on the Hyundai i20 with which it will also share its platform. Unlike last time, where the entire body was covered in camouflaged material, the latest spy shots show the car without the same camouflage. It is also seen without the machine cut alloys. Confirming that this is a mid variant and not top variant.

Hyundai Carlino in India will be powered by a 1.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine offering 120 PS and 170 Nm, making it one of the most powerful small SUV in the country. It will also get a new 1.5 liter diesel engine offering 115 hp and 250 Nm torque. Transmission options will include manual as well as AMT.

To be launched in the sub 4 meter category, the Hyundai Carlino is expected to be priced between Rs 7-10 lakhs. This will allow it to compete head-on with the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, and soon to be launched Mahindra XUV300 in the sub 4 meter SUV segment.
