New Hyundai Santro vs Tata Tiago vs Maruti WagonR – Engine specs compared

It will compete with the likes of Maruti WagonR and Tata Tiago mainly; and could also rival the Renault Kwid 1.0 and Maruti Celerio. New Hyundai Santro will be launched in India on October 23 and it will come with a host of premium features.

New Santro is also getting an upgraded engine, which can give it an edge over its rivals. Here’s a quick comparison of new Santro’s upgraded engine with that of its rivals such as WagonR and Tiago.

New Santro engine specs: New Hyundai Santro is powered by a new 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that delivers max power of 69 PS at 5,500 RPM and max torque of 99 Nm at 4,500 RPM. The engine is coupled with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Both manual and AMT variants give mileage of 20.3 kmpl. New Santro’s engine has been developed for all round performance and it comes with an efficient, peppy and smooth powertrain. New Santro will also be offered in a factory fitted CNG variant that will deliver 59 PS and 84 Nm. It will give a mileage of 30.5 km per kg of CNG.

Maruti WagonR engine specs: WagonR is powered by an all-aluminium lightweight K Series 998 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine, mated to either a 5-speed manual or Auto Gear Shift (AGS) unit. Petrol variant with manual transmission delivers max power of 50 kW @ 6200 RPM and max torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 RPM. The stats are quite similar for the AGS variant. Both manual and AGS variants give mileage of 20.51 kmpl. There’s a CNG variant as well that delivers 43.5 kW @ 6200 RPM and 77 Nm @ 3500 RPM. It gives a mileage of 26.6 km per kg of CNG.

Tata Tiago engine specs: Tata Tiago comes in both petrol and diesel variants. Petrol variant is powered by Revotron 1.2-litre, 1199 cc, 3 cylinder engine whereas the diesel variant is powered by Revotorq 1.05-litre, 1047cc, 3 cylinder engine. Petrol engine delivers max power of 85 PS @ 6000 RPM and max torque of 114 Nm @ 3500 RPM.

Diesel variant delivers 70 PS @ 4000 RPM and 140 Nm @ 1800-3000 RPM. Petrol variant comes with 5-speed manual and AMT options whereas diesel variant only has 5-speed manual transmission. Petrol and petrol AMT variants give mileage of 23.84 kmpl whereas diesel variant gives mileage of 27.28 kmpl.
