New Hyundai SUV spied on test – Rival to Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon

Hyundai is actively testing a new sub 4 meter SUV which is based on the Carlino Concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. A global SUV, it is slated for launch in early 2019. First countries to get the car could be the US.

The test mules seem to be in a near production format. This new car launch is a part of the 6 new cars Hyundai plans for launch in India by 2020.

Hyundai’s new compact SUV is believed to have been built on a new lighter platform. This will significantly reduce the car’s weight, yet increase structural strength. It will offer good performance and will come in with better driving dynamics and high ground clearance.

From the spy shots, it is seen that the overall shape of the car is boxy. It sports a rectangular grille, twin vertically stacked headlamps and LED DRLs. It also gets turn indicators above the headlamps along with a long wheelbase, massive wheel arches and big sized tyres.

The compact SUV could borrow features from both the current Grand i10 and Creta in India. It will be a 5 seater SUV with sufficient interior space and a large boot. Interior features, though not detailed, could include push button start, automatic climate control, multi function steering wheel, rear AC vents and an infotainment system. Multiple air-bags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution and hill start assist could be among its safety features.

Engine specifications can include a smaller capacity 1.0 liter T-GDi, 3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which also powers the Hyundai i20 in global markets. This engine is capable of 118 bhp power and 171 Nm torque. The diesel engine option could be a 1.4 liter U2 CRDi offering 89bhp power and 220 Nm torque.
