New generation Hyundai Verna has been launched in China and will be launched in India this August 2017. Already spied on test on many occasions, the mid-size sedan is going to be sharper, more refined, and feature rich than before.
Speaking about styling updates, 2017 Hyundai Verna is more sporty and attractive than ever before. It gets a new grille design along with a new headlight cluster. Front and rear bumpers are also new, and so are the tail-lights.
Longer by 30 mm than the current variant, new Verna stands at 4,440 mm in length, which is equal to the new Honda City. The added length will result in extra legroom for the rear seat passengers. Interiors feature a revised dashboard layout, leather covered steering wheel, touch-screen infotainment system with navigation, reverse parking camera display, Bluetooth, USB, AUX, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Engine options for India will continue to be the same as the current Verna, two petrol options, and two diesel engine options. These will be in the form of 1.4 liter and 1.6-liter mills. The transmission will be in the form of 5 MT, 6 MT and automatic gearbox (6 AT).
There was also a report which stated that the new Verna will be offered with a mild hybrid system as seen on the Maruti Ciaz diesel. But post GST, this does not seem to happen as under GST, the govt is taxing hybrid cars the highest. Price of Maruti hybrid cars have gone up by about INR 1.5 lakh.
Post the launch of Ciaz and new Honda City, Verna has lost its charm. There was a time when Verna was the no 1 selling car in the segment. But post the launch of rivals Ciaz and City, the sales of Verna rapidly declined. With the launch of new Verna, Hyundai India will be hoping to regain their lost market share in the mid-sized sedan segment.
