The campaign covers KTM Duke 390 motorcycles which are manufactured in 2017 and 2018. The so called monsoon kit comprises an improved ECU bracket, pillion seat damping bushes and a remedy for the well known headlamp vibration issue.
KTM will also update the software on the motorcycles whose headlamp switches off spontaneously. Of course, these fixes will be carried out free of cost. The improved ECU bracket features a waterproof cover while the new pillion seat damping bushes are designed in such a way to increase the gap between the seat and taillight so as to avoid the latter’s cracking. In the current configuration, the taillight could crack with a heavy pillion onboard.
KTM has been quietly updating its India-made models to improve overall quality. It’s being reported that the new Duke 390 received an update for the 2018 model year which involved a software update for the instrument console, redesigned radiator housing for better heat management, and increased idle rpm range from 1200-1600 to 1200-1800.
The new KTM Duke 390’s 373 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine continues to dish out 43.5 HP at 9,000 rpm and 37 Nm of torque at 7,000. The motor is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
The KTM Duke 390 now has a formidable rival in the BMW G310R which retails for Rs 2.99 lakhs, ex-showroom. In comparison to that of Duke’s, the India-made Bimmer’s 313 cc motor produces 34 HP and 28 Nm of torque. The two compact displacement street fighters are closely matched rivals despite the on-paper performance disparity.
The BMW motorcycle is made by TVS at its Hosur facility for both local and global consumption while the KTM is built by Bajaj at its Chakan plant. KTM will next launch a Duke 390 based adventure motorcycle in India. This new motorcycle will be launched early next year. It will rival the likes of BMW G130GS.
