While KTM RC 160 shares its core mechanicals with the 160 Duke, its overall design is similar to the RC 200

KTM is stepping up its entry-level play in India from 125 cc to 160 cc. This is set to intensify the competition with rivals such as Yamaha. Earlier this year in August, KTM launched the 160 Duke, which primarily rivals the MT-15. Next launch is expected to be the RC 160, which will take on Yamaha R15 V4. Ahead of its debut, images of KTM RC 160 have surfaced online. Let’s check out the details.

KTM RC 160 – Design and features

As evident in the images, KTM RC 160 has largely the same profile as the RC 200. The graphics also appear to be similar. Key features include LED headlamps with sharp LED DRLs, a raked windshield, polygonal rear-view mirrors, sculpted fuel tank, aerodynamic fairing, split seats and an underbelly exhaust.

In these images, the bike is using the Black colour option, as available with the RC 200. Other colour options available with RC 200 include Blue and Metallic Grey. The Black colour seems like the best match for the bike’s overall design. It remains to be seen if RC 160 will be getting any exclusive colour options or using the same ones available with RC 200.

The graphics in KTM’s signature Electric Orange colour further enhance the bike’s dynamic profile. The rear sub-frame has the same striking colour. Rival Yamaha R15 V4 also has sporty colour options on offer. Users can choose from Matte Pearl White, Metallic Black, Racing Blue, Intensity White, Dark Knight and Metallic Red.

KTM RC 160 – Performance, specs

Powering the RC 160 will be the same 164.2 cc engine, as in use with the 160 Duke. The liquid-cooled, single-cylinder unit generates 19 PS and 15.5 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Designed to be versatile, this engine delivers optimal performance across city streets as well as track environments. It has four valves integrated with dual overhead camshafts and carbon-coated ultra-durable cam followers. This setup ensures superior performance while also boosting the engine’s longevity.

Rival Yamaha R15 V4 utilizes a 155cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve engine that generates 18.4 PS and 14.2 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. As is evident, KTM’s 160 cc engine has slightly better performance numbers. To boost RC 160’s top-end performance, it is possible that some tweaks could be introduced in the bike’s final drive ratio.

KTM RC 160 will borrow most of its parts from the 160 Duke. The bike will have lightweight 17-inch wheels at both ends. Suspension setup comprises ultra-lightweight WP USD forks at the front and a WP Apex monoshock unit at the rear. Braking setup comprises 320 mm and 230 mm disc brakes at the front and rear, respectively. Dual-channel ABS is offered as standard.

Just like the 160 Duke, the RC 160 will be using an LCD instrument display. Users can access a range of information such as speed, gear position, RPM, distance to empty (DTE), fuel consumption and average speed. KTM RC 160 is expected to be launched in early 2026. It could be offered at a starting price of around Rs 1.85 lakh. The most accessible Yamaha R15 V4 variant is priced at Rs 1.69 lakh.
