New Mahindra Scorpio AT is reportedly waiting for approval from RTO authorities across India to commence sales. Mechanical details of the new variant are said to be submitted to the concerned government departments already.
According to a leaked document, Scorpio AT will be available in three variants – S6+, S8 and S10. The range topping S10 variant can also be specified with 4×4 system. The 6-speed torque converter AT is expected to be an improved version of the older unit. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine would continue to dish out 120 bhp and 280 Nm of torque.
Save for the ‘Automatic’ badge on the tailgate, no other visual changes are expected. The autobox is expected to add around INR 1 lakhs to the price tag but new Scorpio AT would still be one of the most affordable automatic diesel SUVs in the country.
Mahindra’s timing is impeccable as Hyundai is gearing up to launch Creta with a diesel automatic variant and Maruti is ready with its S-Cross. AT variant will help Mahindra Scorpio keep its appeal intact in the advent of new competition.
