New Maruti Ciaz spied with driver sleeping inside – Police wake him up

The first generation Maruti Suzuki Ciaz which was launched in October 2014 is soon to receive a facelift. The model is actively being tested ahead of launch which is slated for sometime in August, just ahead of the festive season in the country.

The latest spy shots are credit to our reader Saroj K. He is probably the only one who is not a Maruti employee and has managed to get such a close look at the car. All thanks to the driver of the test mule, who decided to take a nap after parking the car on the side of the road. But his nap was soon broken, by local cops on duty. Who woke him up and asked him to move the car from the spot as it was a No Parking zone.

On a hot day, under a green tree, catching up sleep inside a test car. But, Haryana Police come knocking seeing a strange car on the side of the road.

Thanks to Saroj’s spy shots, it can be seen that the new Ciaz gets projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, LED elements on tail lamps, chrome accents around the reflectors on rear bumper and a redesigned front end with a sleeker and more elongated grille. It also gets a new set of alloy wheels.

Interiors look somewhat similar to the outgoing model done up in a black and beige color scheme. It does, however, sports a new set of buttons on the steering wheel on the right spoke indicating introduction of cruise control.

It gets faux wood inserts, an updated instrument cluster and could come in with rain sensing wipers. It is yet to be ascertained if a sunroof will be a part of the updates as it was not noted on the model on test. The tyres this car was wearing was 185/55 15 inch alloys. The current Ciaz base variant gets 185/65 R15 while top end variant gets 195/55 R16.

Sleeping driver can be seen inside the Ciaz.

Speaking about engine options, 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz gets 1.5 liter petrol engine with Suzuki’s mild hybrid SHVS technology. This engine has already been launched in Indonesia on board the new gen Ertiga. It is rated to deliver 104.7 PS peak power and 138 Nm peak torque.

These power and torque figures are substantially higher than that seen on the 1.4 liter petrol engine powering its current model offering 92.4 PS power and 130 Nm torque. The new Ciaz will also get a 1.3 liter diesel engine from Fiat offering 90 PS power and 200 Nm torque.

2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is expected to be priced in the same range as its current offering between Rs 8-12 lakhs. Once officially launched in India, the new Ciaz will compete against Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Toyota Yaris. Pre-launch and bookings for the new Ciaz Facelift are expected to start sometime soon.
