Launched with great fanfare last month, Mahindra Marazzo is destined to take on rivals such as Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. Marazzo may have gained a head start, but competition is set to intensify, as Maruti is scheduled to launch all-new, second generation Ertiga on November 21.
2018 Ertiga will have several new features and upgrades and it also gets a new petrol engine. Here’s a quick comparison between Mahindra Marazzo and 2018 Maruti Ertiga to get an idea about how things will shape up for these two MPVs in the coming months. New Maruti Ertiga vs Old Maruti Ertiga vs Mahindra Marazzo.
Dimensions – Second generation Ertiga will be longer, wider and taller than its predecessor, but still it won’t be able to beat Marazzo in terms of size. 2018 Ertiga will measure 4395mm in length, 1735mm in width and 1690mm in height. In comparison, Marazzo measures 4585mm x 1866mm x 1774mm (L*W*H). At 2760mm, Marazzo’s wheelbase is also more than that of new Ertiga (2740mm).
These figures clearly indicate that Marazzo will have more space on the inside. Marazzo also has larger boot space of 190 litres, as compared to 153 litres available in new Ertiga. However, Ertiga has a higher ground clearance of 180mm, as compared to Marazzo’s 150mm. Ertiga is hence better suited for rough roads.
Engine and transmission – 2018 Maruti Ertiga will have a new 1.5-litre petrol engine that will be replacing the existing 1.4-litre engine. However, diesel Ertiga will have the same 1.3-litre diesel engine as the current one that delivers 90hp power and 200Nm torque. In comparison, Marazzo is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that delivers 123hp power and 300Nm of torque. Marazzo does not have a petrol variant currently, but it is likely to have one by 2020.
Talking about the transmission, new 2018 Ertiga will continue to use the existing 5-speed manual for both petrol and diesel variants. Petrol variant will also have the option of a 4-speed automatic transmission. In comparison, Marazzo only offers 6-speed manual transmission. Automatic option may be available by 2020.
Fuel efficiency – Being lighter, even the current generation Ertiga beats Marazzo in fuel efficiency. Ertiga diesel variant gives 24.52 kmpl, whereas Marazzo gives only 17.3 kmpl. Ertiga petrol manual gives 17.5 kmpl whereas the petrol automatic gives 17 kmpl. 2018 Maruti Ertiga is expected to give better mileage, as it will be utilizing the lightweight Heartect platform.
Price – 2018 Ertiga is expected to be priced around Rs 50,000 more than the existing model. Petrol variant could be priced in the range of Rs 6.8-9.3 lakh, whereas diesel variant could be priced in the range of Rs 9.4-11.3 lakh. In comparison, Marazzo is priced in the range of Rs 9.99-13.90 lakh. Current Ertiga is offered with huge discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh to clear old stock before new Ertiga launch.
