Euro-spec New Swift scores 4 star safety rating – Report

New generation Maruti Swift is going to be launched in India by late 2017 or early 2018.

New Maruti Suzuki Swift is based on a light-weight aluminium platform, like that of the Baleno hatchback. The new platform, Suzuki claims is stronger than before.

In a crash test performed by EURO NCAP, the car has scored a 4 star safety rating, with an optional safety package. Without the safety package, the car scored a rather disappointing 3 star safety rating.

As per the crash test report, the new Swift scored 88% safety for adult occupancy, 75% safety for child occupants, 69% for pedestrians, and 44% for safety assist features.

Weighing just 855 kgs, the new Swift is a bit more sharper, featuring projector headlamps with LED DRLs, hexagonal grille and large air dam. Longer and wider than current Swift, new Swift will offer more space on the inside. It is also loaded with new features, including a new 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Interiors feature a new layout. It will get a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel with ambient lighting on the instrument panel and dashboard.

Powering the new gen Swift will be 1.2 liter petrol engine and a 1.0 liter turbocharged motor. The 1.2 liter motor will be good for 67 PS while the 1.0 liter motor delivers 101 PS. There is also an SHVS variant on offer. These options are for Japan. India it is expected to continue with the same 1.2 liter petrol and 1.3 liter diesel engine options. These engines will be tuned to be more responsive and deliver better mileage as the weight of the car has been reduced.
