Already spied on test, the new generation 2019 Maruti WagonR hatchback is all set for India launch next month. Production will commence at the company plant in Manesar in the first week of Jan 2019, post which dispatch to dealerships across India will start.
Based on the new HeartECT platform, on which the new Swift, DZire, Ertiga, Baleno are also based, the 2019 Maruti WagonR will be longer and wider than the current WagonR. This will allow more space for passengers on the inside as well as a larger boot.
Speaking about the design, spyshots of new WagonR reveal revised front and rear look. The car continues to look boxy in shape, but gets a more matured look. Top end variant could come with projector headlamps and LED DRLs. There is also a new grille in the front along with new bumper. At the rear, there are new LED tail lamps. Overall, the design is such, that the car look like a mini SUV.
On the inside, it will get a dual tone finish. On the dashboard you will find a smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Other features on offer are steering mounted controls, adjustable steering wheel, MID on instrument console, seats are bigger with more comfort, power windows, auto AC, etc.
Powering the 2019 Maruti WagonR will be an updated 1.0 liter petrol engine, which will be tuned to deliver more power and mileage. It will be offered in dual fuel option of CNG as well as LPG. Transmission will be via 5 speed MT as well as AMT. No diesel option will be on offer.
In terms of safety, as has been seen all new generation cars of Maruti Suzuki, the new WagonR will also come equipped with dual airbags and ABS as standard across all variants. Once launched, the new WagonR will compete with the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago. Expect prices to be in the Rs 4.3 to Rs 5.5 lakhs range.
