New Mercedes Benz CLS Class makes global debut at the 2017 LA Auto Show

Third generation of Mercedes Benz CLS, a midsized fastback sedan was unveiled at the LA Auto Show. It is expected to go on sale in the US by fall 2018 and in other global markets from March 2018.

The four door, five seater Mercedes Benz CLS comes in with a fresh design with a shape and positioning that enhances width of the sedan. It is seen with a new contoured grille, headlights sporting inward slanting flanks, LEDs and 19″ multi-spoke AMG alloys painted black.

Interiors get a 12.3” display, keyless entry, leather upholstery, ambient lighting in 64 color combinations and smartphone integration. New AC vents, Dynamic Select drive modes and Burmester sound system are also a part of the interior features. The rear seats are folded down in a 40:20:40 ratio adding further capacity to the 520 liter boot space.

In terms of safety, the new Mercedes CLS receives Active Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assist, Speed Limit Assist and PRE-SAFE which are offered as standard. Optional features include Driving Assistance Package with Active Distance Control, Active Steering Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and PRE-SAFE Plus.

The Mercedes CLS is powered by one petrol engine and two diesel engines. The CLS 450 4MATIC gets an in-line 6 cylinder unit with EQ Boost and a 48 V electric system. This offers 370 PS power and 500 Nm torque. The EQ Boost adds 22 PS power and 250 Nm torque. The diesel engine is a 3.0 liter in-line 6 cylinder unit offering 340 PS power and 700 Nm torque where the CLS 400d is concerned and 286 PS power and 600 Nm torque on the CLS 350d.
