New Mercedes G Class SUV makes global debut – Guess in who’s presence?

Set for official launch sometime in June 2018, Mercedes Benz has officially taken wraps off their all new generation of G-Class. Boasting of some innovative new interior and exterior updates, the new G-Class gets boxy styling with a front grille with circular headlamps, a new hood and front bumper design.

This time round, the G-Class receives a spare tyre carrier and increased dimensions which make it 2 inches longer and 4.7 inches wider than its earlier counterpart offering better head and leg room.

Interior updates include a new steering wheel design, metallic accents and wood or carbon fiber trims. It receives analogue gauges with a 12.3” digital instrument cluster and a 12.3” infotainment display also present. Infotainment features also includes a 7 speaker audio system and as an option, a 16 speaker Burmester surround sound system.

Seating is heated and offered in design leather with Active Multicontour Seat package and massage function. Nappa leather is seen on doors, dashboard and central console while its interior gets a host of storage compartments.

Mercedes G-Class is powered by a 4.0 liter V8 twin turbo engine offering 416 hp power and 450 lb/ft torque at 2,000 to 4,750 rpm. This engine is mated to a 9 speed automatic transmission with a four wheel drive system. The G-Class torsional stiffness has been improved by 55 percent and the SUV also weighs 170 kgs lighter than its earlier model.

Front wheel suspension has been improved for smoother road performance and better off road facilities while wading depth has also been enhanced to 700mm. It comes with new waterproof rear cameras which have been fitted under rear tyre to aid in reverse maneuvers.

The new Mercedes G-Class will go on sale in the US by late 2018. Priced from €107,040.50 ($130,532 / INR 82,81,668), the new Mercedes G-Class will go on display at the North American International Auto Show later today.
