New Mitsubishi Xpander MPV is a 2018 Maruti Ertiga rival – Could launch in India

Mitsubishi Xpander MPV was first unveiled last year. The car is currently on sale in Indonesia, where it rivals the all new generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Yes, the new Ertiga has been launched in Indonesia already. India launch of the new Ertiga is expected to take place later this year.

Considering India is a huge market for SUVs and MPVs, especially those in the Rs 8-12 lakh range, there is a high chance that the Xpander could be the next launch from Mitsubishi in India.

At the launch event of their new car, Mitsubishi India’s MD said that the company has plans in place for launching newer products in India. Focus is on SUVs and crossovers. Mitsubishi Xpander, the 7 seater MPV, is noted with ‘Dynamic Shield’ philosophy, new headlamps with turn indicators and a distinctive three slat chrome grill with LED pilot lamps on either side.

It measures 4475mm long, 1750mm wide, 1700mm tall, and has ground clearance of 205mm capable of seating 7 persons in a three row configuration. It sits on dual tone 16” alloy wheels and receives a floating roof effect with darkened C Pillars.

Interiors of the Xpander receive air conditioning, electric windows and faux wood and leather accents. It gets touchscreen infotainment and Bluetooth phone connectivity. The instrument cluster also gets an analogue dial and digital MID screen. Seating in the middle is of a 60:40 configuration while rear seats offer a 50:50 split.

Mitsubishi MPV is powered by a 1.5 liter MIVEC petrol engine mated to a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission. As of now this is the only engine option on offer. Variants on offer are Ultimate (top end), Sport, Exceed, GLS and GLX (base).

Price of the new Mitsubishi Xpander in the Indonesian market starts from IDR 1.89 million (Rs 9.04 lakh) and ranges all the way up to IDR 2.45 million (Rs 11.74 lakh). When launched here, it will rival the likes of Maruti Ertiga, Honda BR-V, etc.
