New Nissan 7 seater SUV (Mahindra XUV700 rival) debuts – India launch next?

New Nissan 7 seater SUV, Terra has been officially launched in Thailand. It is open for bookings and enters the country to compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Isuzu MU-X. Its entry into Thailand follows launch in both Indonesia and the Philippines.

Nissan Terra, available in V 2WD, VL 2WD and VL 4WD variants, is positioned on a ladder frame platform. It is a 7 seater SUV which is based on the NP300 Navara pick-up truck from which it also borrows some exterior styling and interior features.

It is seen with automatic LED headlamps, daytime running lights, fog lamps and it sits on 18” alloy wheels finished in a two tone color scheme. Interiors are seen in leather upholstery with an 8 way power adjustable driver seat, 1 touch auto tumble function for second row seats and dual zone climate controls.

It also receives features such as keyless entry, push-button start, an acoustic glass windscreen, 5” multi information display and Kenwood 2-DIN navigation system along with a 7” touchscreen infotainment system with 6 speakers.

Safety features include a reverse camera, digital rear view mirror, 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, stability control and hill start assist. It also gets ISOFIX child seat anchors, a 360 degree camera with moving object detection and lane departure warning system, though these are offered on the top spec VL variants only.

Nissan Terra in Thailand is powered by a 2.3 liter twin turbocharged diesel engine offering 190 PS power at 3,750 rpm and 450 Nm torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm mated to a 7 speed automatic transmission. In terms of pricing, the Terra is priced at 1,316,000 baht (RM162,500 / Rs 27,62,256) for V 2WD, 1,349,000 baht (RM166,600 / Rs 28,31,950) for VL 2WD and 1,427,000 baht (RM176,200 / Rs 29,95,135) for VL 4WD.

Nissan India has not announced any plans of launching this SUV in India yet. But considering the demand for 7 seater macho SUVs, Nissan could launch it in India in the future. Here, it will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, and the soon to be launched Mahindra XUV700. Expect prices to be in the range of Rs 30 lakhs here as well.
