New Nissan X-Trail for India will come only with hybrid powertrain

Almost three years after its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2013, the new Nissan X-Trail is on track to launch in India. The premium SUV which was discontinued in the country in early 2014 will make a comeback in its latest avatar.

Autocar India reports that the new X-Trail will be launched in India only as a hybrid SUV. Slated to make its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2015 on February 3 (press day), the X-Trail petrol hybrid is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor. The combined power output stands at 179 bhp. The motor aids in achieving four-wheel drive.

The X-Trail hybrid will be benefiting from the FAME subsidy.

Like its predecessor, the new Nissan X-Trail is expected to be imported into the country as a CBU. Local assembly is ruled out, at least for the short term.

Design of the new SUV is in stark contrast with the older gen model which was dull and boxy. The V-Motion chrome grille, sleek LED infused headlamps, a dynamic profile and a muscular rear fascia make for an imposing road presence. The 7-seater offers upmarket interiors, filled up to the brim with latest features and gadgets.

Since it’s a CBU, one can expect it to be priced around INR 32-35 lakhs (ex-showroom). Being a hybrid, the vehicle will be subsidized under FAME.
