New Skoda Octavia India launch confirmed by company Director

While 2020 has just gotten underway, Skoda Auto India gives a fair idea of what the year is going to look like. The company commits to ‘5 new or updated models to be launched this year.’

One of them could be the Octavia new gen, which is slated for launch either in late 2020 or in early 2021. The other launches expected include the Rapid facelift and Superb facelift. The Skoda Kamiq too has been spied testing here.

Over recent months, Skoda has redesigned its footprint in India. This revolves around renewed interest in the market and would entail products that keep the brand relevant and competitive. Skoda Karoq would be one such launch. The CBU, a midsize SUV will be available as a petrol option to start with.

It is also to be noted that ahead of the launch of new gen Octavia, the company will launch the current gen Octavia RS, most likely at the Auto Expo next month. It will come as CBU.

Along with new launches, the product portfolio needs to be BSVI compliant is mandated from April 1, 2020. The thing about a capable company like Skoda is that, globally it has a dynamic product portfolio. Somehow, the market in India isn’t as active, and this reflects in company sales here.

Coming back to the new gen Octavia, on the design front, the next gen Skoda Octavia will get a new front grille and headlamp cluster. It will also sport LED DRLs and a new bonnet with deep crease lines while at the rear, new L shaped tail lamps and a Skoda logo on its boot lid will be noted. It could also come in with increased dimensions in which case interior space will be at a premium.

The interiors will also see some updates borrowed from the Skoda Vision X concept seen at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. It will receive a two spoke, multi function steering wheel, large touchscreen infotainment system and fully digital instrument cluster. As part of the updates the new Octavia will also get dual zone climate controls, powered front seats and keyless entry with push button start. Safety features will continue to include eight airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, front and rear parking sensors, rearview camera and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Engine specifications on the 2020 Skoda Octavia will be a 1.5 liter petrol and 2.0 liter TSI engines, along with the 2.0 liter TDI motor. These engines could get mild hybrid technology while a plug-in hybrid version will also follow sometime later. India might get different engine options. Expect price hike, as compared to current Octavia prices.
