Renault is all set to unveil the all-new generation Duster for the Indian market today, marking the much-awaited return of one of its most iconic nameplates. The Duster once played a key role in popularising the midsize SUV segment in India, and its comeback is crucial for Renault as it looks to regain relevance in a market dominated by SUVs.

The upcoming model will be based on the CMF-B platform, which underpins the new-gen Duster sold in international markets. This architecture allows for improved rigidity, better safety performance and support for modern powertrains, while also enabling more contemporary design and features.

Familiar Yet Modern Design Direction

The new Duster retains its core SUV DNA with a muscular stance and upright proportions, but adopts a far more modern design language. Expect a boxier silhouette, flared wheel arches, chunky cladding and a more rugged road presence compared to the outgoing model. As per the teasers revealed, India-spec Duster has minor design changes, to make it look different in comparison to International model.

Inside, the new Duster is expected to take a big leap forward. A modern dashboard layout with a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, improved material quality and better ergonomics are expected. Depending on positioning, features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and connected car tech could be offered on higher variants.

Safety is also expected to be a key focus, with multiple airbags, ESC, traction control and ADAS features likely to be showcased, though final equipment details will be revealed later. The new platform will also help play a major role in improving the overall structural strength.

Powertrain Expectations

For India, Renault is expected to keep things simple initially. As per earlier reports and sightings, the new Duster is likely to be offered with petrol power only. Turbo-petrol engine options with manual and automatic transmissions are expected, with a strong focus on drivability and efficiency. Diesel engines are unlikely in the current market scenario, though Renault could evaluate hybrid or electrified options at a later stage, depending on demand and regulations.

Positioning And Rivals

The new-gen Duster will slot into the highly competitive midsize SUV segment, taking on rivals such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Tata Sierra and others. Renault is expected to position the Duster as a robust, no-nonsense SUV with a strong focus on ride quality, durability and real-world usability — areas where the original Duster built its reputation.

While the unveiling will give us a clear look at the India-spec Duster and its overall positioning, pricing and launch timelines are expected to be announced at a later stage. The reveal itself is an important milestone for Renault India, as the Duster is expected to spearhead the brand’s next phase of growth in the country. All eyes will be on how well Renault has adapted this globally successful SUV to meet Indian buyer expectations. You can watch the LIVE webcast below, which starts at 6-30 pm India time.
