Renault has revealed the new-generation Duster for India. Here is how the SUV stacks up against key rivals like Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Victoris and Toyota Hyryder. Going by the numbers, Duster’s positioning is built around strong SUV basics (width, ground clearance, boot space) and a wide powertrain spread, including a strong-hybrid that will arrive later in 2026.

Dimensions: Duster sits right in the thick of it

In terms of footprint, Renault Duster measures 4,346 mm in length, placing it close to Grand Vitara and Hyryder (4,345 mm), and slightly longer than Creta (4,330 mm) and Sierra (4,340 mm). Kia Seltos is the longest here at 4,460 mm.

Where Duster stands out is width. At 1,815 mm, it is wider than Creta (1,790 mm) and the hybrid trio (1,795 mm), though Seltos (1,830 mm) and Sierra (1,841 mm) are wider still. Height at 1,703 mm keeps it taller than Creta/Seltos (both 1,635 mm), giving it a more upright SUV stance. Wheelbase is 2,657 mm, longer than Creta (2,610 mm) and the hybrid trio (2,600 mm), though Seltos (2,690 mm) and Sierra (2,730 mm) lead for outright wheelbase length.

Boot space and ground clearance: Duster goes big on practicality

Duster’s boot figure of 700 litres (as per the table shared) is the headline grabber. In comparison, Creta offers 433 litres and Seltos 447 litres, while Grand Vitara, Victoris and Hyryder have not disclosed boot capacity in the table.

Ground clearance is another strong point. Duster stands at 212 mm, which is the highest in this set, ahead of Sierra (205 mm), Seltos (200 mm) and Creta (190 mm). It also edges the hybrid trio at 210 mm. Wheel size is 18 inches for Duster, matching Seltos, while Creta and the Japanese hybrid SUVs run 17-inch wheels. Sierra goes up to 19-inch wheels.

Petrol powertrains: Duster tops the power chart

Duster is listed with a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo and a 1.3L 4-cylinder turbo option with 163 PS and 280 Nm. That makes Duster the most powerful petrol SUV among the listed rivals. Creta and Seltos top out at 158 hp in this comparison, while Sierra’s turbo option is shown at 160 hp (with 255 Nm). The naturally aspirated petrol SUVs here sit much lower on output. Gearbox options for Duster turbo 163 PS are shown as 6MT / DCA, while Creta and Seltos offer a wider mix (6MT, IVT, IMT, DCT).

Strong-hybrid comparison

In other words, Duster’s strong-hybrid is positioned as a higher-output hybrid option versus the existing leaders in the segment. It also has a larger battery, thanks to which Renault has also claimed up to 80% EV-mode usage in city driving. Hybrid Duster deliveries start around Diwali 2026, while turbo-petrol deliveries are slated to begin from April 2026.
