Word has come out that new gen Skoda Fabia is en route to India, probably early next year (2016). But there may be a catch. Given the current trend of hatchbacks in B-segment and taking into account the unhealthy status quo of Skoda India, the company may not launch the Euro spec hatchback as it is, here. For the most part, it will be the features that would be sacrificed. But to make Fabia affordable, some engineering changes would be done to the critical components, as Skoda though retaining the premium status would not risk the game with the car’s price. Skoda India needs as much volume sales as it needs brand boost, given the mediocre sales performance of almost all its models here.
The new gen Fabia is nothing like its predecessor, but the rivalry in the segment in India has also evolved as much. Especially with the forthcoming launch of Honda Jazz and Maruti YRA premium hatchbacks, the competition would be a lot tougher than Skoda Fabia faced in its previous life in India before it quit in 2013.
