New Skoda Kamiq SUV has made global debut in China
Designed for the urban Chinese customers, the Kamiq has made its debut in the 2018 Beijing Auto Show.
Skoda has revealed an all new SUV, the Kamiq at the ongoing upcoming 2018 Beijing Auto Show. Similar to its elder siblings like the Kodiaq & Koraq, the Kamiq dons a rugged design language.
The Kamiq will be sharing its platform (localized PQ platform) with the Chinese Rapid. New Skoda Kamiq will be powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine, churning out 108 HP. Transmission will be taken care by an automatic gearbox.
China is currently a critical market for Skoda as it accounts for around 25% of its total global sales. Skoda’s China sales continued to grow in 2017, recording a healthy 2.5% increase to reach to a total of 3, 25,000 units in the previous year.
Skoda believes that the Kamiq will play a crucial role to double its total sales in the country to 6,00,000 units by the end of 2020.
The Skoda Kamiq is expected to reach the showrooms this summer and the pricing is estimated to be around 90,000 – 1, 00,000 yuan (INR 9.5 – 11 lakh).
Post the launch, the Kamiq will be competing with other Chinese models like the Hyundai ix25, the Nissan Kicks and the Citroen C3-XR. No word on a potential Indian launch is available and honestly, chances look slim.
