New Suzuki Hayate commuter with 2015 model year updates have been launched at INR 54,601 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The slow selling commuter has received noticeable cosmetic updates and a few mechanical updates as well.
Visually, new Hayate gets fresh body decals and five dual-tone color theme options namely Glass Sparkle Black with Red Graphics, Glass Sparkle Black with Blue graphics, Pearl Mirage White, Pearl Mira Red with Glass Sparkle Black, and Pearl Moon Stone Grey.
Mechanical changes come in the form of new maintenance free battery, tubeless tyres and 5-step adjustable rear coil spring shock absorbers. The 112.8 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine continues to produce 8.3 hp and 8.8 nm of torque, when mated to a 4-speed transmission.
The commuter is equipped with electric starter but makes do without front disc brake (not even an option). The front and rear tyres are of specification 70/100-17M/C 40P and 80/100-17M/C 53P respectively.
The upgrades are expected to enhance Hayate’s prospects during the festive season. Competition would come from Hero’s formidable range of 100 cc commuters, Honda’s accomplished 110 cc contenders, TVS Star City, Mahindra Centuro, and Bajaj Discover.
Suzuki would be hoping that the strong sales of Gixxer twins would have a positive rub-off on rest of its Indian portfolio.
