Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (Maruti S-Cross in India) gets AMT in diesel variant

There is not much of speculation going on for the new Suzuki SX4 S-Cross variant, down to which automatic transmission setup will be used, as it is pretty obvious. The Japanese automaker has only two at its disposal as of now – one is a 4-speed AT of conventional type and other is Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) kit sourced from Magneti Marelli for Celerio AGS and Alto K10 AGS (Auto Gear Shift) in India.

New variant of Suzuki S-Cross will get Euro 6 version of same 120 PS, 320 Nm 1.6 litre diesel engine (currently Euro 5), along with AMT and new touchscreen, MirrorLink infotainment system.

The former (4-speed automatic transmission setup) is doing duty in cars like Maruti Dzire among others, which is designed to leech on to petrol engines. Then the AMT unit, since it is not exactly a gearbox but a kind of robot that engages clutch and changes gears for the driver, is a versatile system that can be clamped to almost any gearbox used in passenger cars to heavy duty trucks.

Maruti S-Cross, Indian version of Suzuki SX4 S-Cross, is slated for launch in May, without the AMT.

Since the new variant of Suzuki S-Cross will be a diesel version, it seems logical that AMT will be offered with it, for easy traffic manoeuvring and better mileage than manual transmission (as the company claims).
