New Tata Tiago top variant will have more features than Hyundai Santro

It is no secret that the newly launched Hyundai Santro is off to a good start (registering 40k bookings already). Hyundai is expected to sell about 10,000 units of new Santro in India every month. Priced a bit higher than Tata Tiago, one of the USP of new Santro is that it has more features – like touchscreen. And this could affect sales of Tata’s best selling car – the Tiago.

It is for this reason that Tata has readied the new Tiago XZ+ top variant. It will sit above the existing XZ variant. 2018 Tata Tiago XZ+ will come with dual tone exterior colours, larger 15 inch alloys, auto AC, and touchscreen infotainment – thus making the Tiago more feature loaded than the Santro.

The fully-loaded variant of the Tiago, called the XZ+, will launch in India on 12th December. It will be presented in two new color options of Canyon Orange and Ocean Blue apart from monotone color options of Berry Red, Pearlescent White, Titanium Grey and Espresso Brown. The  color options can also be had in dual tones except the Espresso Brown.

It will get new 15” alloy wheels in dual tone machine cut finish. These new alloys are larger than the 14 inch wheels seen on the other variants of the Tiago. New projector headlamps with smoked black bezels, side body molding, chrome accents on tail gate, electric ORVMs and a dual tone roof are also among the new features.

New Tiago XZ+ launch soon

Interiors of the Tiago ZX+ variant also receive more equipment as compared to the other variants. The XZ+ will be seen with a 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto while Apple CarPlay is not yet a feature and could be added later but it does get voice command access and notifications for incoming SMS. Interiors will also sport fully automatic climate controls with digital control for AC. The touchscreen infotainment system also aids park assist. While the regular XZ variant got 4 speakers and 4 tweeters, the XZ will now receive only 2 tweeters while the XZ+ variant will get 4 tweeters.

There will be no change in engine specifications and the top end Tiago XZ+ will continue to be powered by petrol and diesel engine options. The 1,199cc engine offers 85 PS power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm torque at 3,500 rpm. The 1,047cc diesel engine is capable of 70 PS power at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm torque at 1,800-3,000 rpm. Both engines get mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. AMT is not on offer. Price is expected to receive a bump of about Rs 30-50k over the Tiago XZ.
