After showcasing its ability to dance to music, BYD Yangwang U9 has now revealed its flying capabilities. With its advanced suspension system, the supercar can leap into the air for a few seconds. BYD showcased this new feature of Yangwang U9 at the ongoing CES 2025.

Flying over potholes, road spikes – How does it work?

BYD Yangwang U9 utilizes two core technology systems – the e4 platform and the DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System. In addition to improving track performance and drive dynamics, these tech innovations have also unlocked some exciting new features. Earlier, BYD Yangwang U9 had gotten everyone’s attention with its dancing capabilities.

The same set of systems have been used to allow the car to jump in the air for brief moments. This advanced suspension setup, part of DiSus-X, allows an instant lifting force of more than 1 ton. This allows the car to leap into the air for brief moments. While dancing to music can be fun, the ability to fly over potholes and other obstacles can have practical uses.

Even across state-of-the-art highways, there can be a possibility of potholes and other debris. For a car that can reach a top speed of more than 300 km/h, such obstructions can lead to major accidents. As seen in the video, BYD Yangwang U9 is driverless and easily glides over the pothole.

BYD has stated that this leap in the air is around 6 meters long. The video also shows a bed of road spikes, around 3.5 cm in height. In this case too, the BYD Yangwang U9 effortlessly flies over the obstacle. Yangwang U9 can automatically detect such obstacles and calculate the exact moment to launch the car into the air. This eliminates the need for human inputs.
